What a whole freeze-dried fish treat is

These are fish treats for dogs and cats with nothing done to them except drying. The fish is not filleted, ground or shaped into a biscuit. The freeze dryer pulls the water out and leaves a light, crisp piece you can hand over, snap into bits or crumble onto a meal. Every bag names one ingredient, the fish.

The sardines come with head, tail and bones. The sardine heads are just that, heads. The minnows are whole too. Because nothing is formed or cut to size, pieces differ in size, shape and color from one fish to the next.

Whole fish means whole-fish questions: bones, handling and how much to give. Our sardines for dogs guide and can cats eat sardines cover them with named sources, and none of it replaces your veterinarian's view of your own pet.

Which fish for which pet

Sardines

The all-purpose pick, and the only fish with three bag sizes. Serve one whole, snap it for rewards or crumble it on food. The smallest bag is an easy way to learn whether your pet cares for fish at all. See freeze-dried sardines.

Minnows

Whole marble goby, the fish this site is named for. If the picker shows Sold out, back soon, they are out of stock for now; the minnow page and the minnow guide still answer the questions.

Sardine heads

The crunchiest of the four, with a strong aroma that makes them handy in a training session. Bones and eyes are part of the deal. See sardine heads.

Anchovies

A smaller, drier fish than the sardine, light enough to keep in a pocket on a walk, with a strong smell that keeps a dog's attention. See freeze-dried anchovies.

Want three at once?

The Fish Trio boxes sardines, anchovies and sardine heads together.

How the three compare is on the Fish Trio page.

How to serve whole fish

  1. Size the piece

Give a whole fish to a dog it suits, or snap off a piece for a small mouth or a quick reward.

  2. Or crumble it

For a cat, or for a dog that prefers a topper, crumble a little over the regular food.

  3. Water, watching, washing

Keep fresh water out, stay with your pet while it eats, then reseal the bag. Every fish we sell here is raw before freeze-drying, so wash your hands with soap and water afterward and clean the bowl, as the FDA advises for raw pet food (FDA, Get the Facts, opened 2026-10-16).

Questions about fish treats

Are fish treats good for dogs?

We make no health claims for these bags. Each is a one-ingredient treat listed for adult dogs of all sizes. The AKC's guidance is that treats should be no more than about 10 percent of a dog's daily diet (AKC, Can Dogs Eat Fish, opened 2026-10-16), and your veterinarian is the one to say what suits your dog.

Can cats have the same fish as dogs?

Every fish here is listed for both, and one bag can serve the household. For a cat, break the piece small or crumble it over food, and treat it as a snack, never a meal. If you are unsure whether fish suits your cat, ask your veterinarian.

Do freeze-dried fish need a fridge?

The sardine and anchovy listings say no refrigerator is needed. For every bag, reseal after opening and keep it in a cool, dry spot away from direct sun.

What if the minnows show Sold out?

Then they are out of stock. We don't accept advance orders, and the minnow option turns back on by itself when a new batch is in. The other fish can be ordered whenever they show a price and an active button.

Where are they made?

In small batches in Malvern, Pennsylvania, by Sniff and Shift. We make no claim about where the fish come from.
